Demonstration of CPR Compressions and Recovery Position

It is a mandatory assessment requirement in all CPR / first aid courses that participants demonstrate CPR on the floor, not on an elevated surface. To be assessed as competent in this course you must be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor as well as demonstrating the Recovery Position. If you have an injury that limits your ability to adequately demonstrate CPR or the recovery position you may attend the course and be issued a non-accredited Statement of Attendance.

Pre-Course Theory Assessment

This training is delivered in blended delivery format. Participants are required to complete the assessment prior to training as home based learning, independently of the classroom session. The links provided at each question form the course reading and answers to the questions can be found within the links. It is important to read each link to verify understanding of the topic. A link to the assessment will be provided on booking.

Assessment Requirements and Learning Outcomes

Performance and Knowledge Evidence:

Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the workplace or community setting.

There must be evidence that the candidate has completed the following tasks in line with State/Territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies and workplace or site procedures:

  • managed, in line with ARC guidelines, the unconscious, breathing casualty including appropriate positioning to reduce the risk of airway compromise
  • managed, in line with ARC guidelines, the unconscious, non-breathing adult including:
    • performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
    • performing at least 2 minutes of bag-valve-mask (with oxygen) ventilation and at least 2 minutes of compression during resuscitation procedures involving at least two rescuers on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor

On successful completion of this training, participants will be awarded a statement of attainment in HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy  and HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation OR HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy, HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support and HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation dependent on which of the above options chosen.

Minimum of 3 participants for all public courses, if less the course may be postponed or refund offered.
