Advanced First Aid

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response, including management of the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

Course Length: One day plus Course Pack and pre-course online component to be completed prior to the class

Course Audience: The unit applies to workers who may be required to provide, coordinate and manage a first aid response across a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

Demonstration of CPR Compressions and Recovery Position

It is a mandatory assessment requirement in all CPR / first aid courses that participants demonstrate CPR on the floor, not on an elevated surface. To be assessed as competent in this course you must be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor as well as demonstrating the Recovery Position. If you have an injury that limits your ability to adequately demonstrate CPR or the recovery position you may attend the course and be issued a non-accredited Statement of Attendance.

Pre-Course Theory Assessment

This training is delivered in blended delivery format. Participants are required to complete the assessment prior to training as home based learning, independently of the classroom session. The links provided at each question form the course reading and answers to the questions can be found within the links. It is important to read each link to verify understanding of the topic. A link to the assessment will be provided on booking.

Assessment Requirements and Learning Outcomes

Performance and Knowledge Evidence:

There must be evidence that the participant has completed the following tasks in line with state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and workplace procedures:

performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface. READ MORE

On successful completion of this training, participants will be awarded a statement of attainment in HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support and HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

Minimum of 3 participants for all public courses, if less the course may be postponed or refund offered.
